Harmony Science Academy-Brownsville Parent Receives 2026 Heroes for Children Award

Consuelo Castillo is one of only 15 individuals statewide selected for the honor

Harmony Science Academy-Brownsville parent Consuelo Castillo has been named one of 15 recipients of the 2026 Heroes for Children Award, a statewide honor recognizing individuals who demonstrate exceptional dedication to Texas students and school communities.

Selected from nominees across Texas, Castillo received the award for her outstanding commitment to students, families and the Harmony community. Her nomination reflects the meaningful impact she has made through her service, care and continued support of the campus.

“It’s a heartwarming feeling to have students recognize me in the hallways,” Castillo said. “It means that they recognize how much time and work I put into the campus. They see the decorations I have helped create for their school. They see that we are working to make their campus beautiful and a better place for them. We want them to be happy and comfortable.”

The Heroes for Children Award is presented annually by the State Board of Education to recognize exceptional volunteers whose efforts benefit Texas public school students. Each of the 15 recipients represents one of the state’s Board of Education districts.

Castillo and the other honorees will be recognized during the State Board of Education’s general meeting Sept. 4, 2026, at the William B. Travis Building in Austin.

This well-deserved recognition celebrates Castillo’s generosity and the positive difference she continues to make in the lives of Harmony Science Academy-Brownsville students.
