Harmony Public Schools South Texas Awarded $50,000 Grant to Expand AI Literacy

Harmony Public Schools South Texas has been awarded a $50,000 Community Catalyst Grant from The AI Education Project (aiEDU) to expand artificial intelligence literacy and educator capacity across South Texas.

The grant will support an initiative reaching PK-12 students across all nine South Texas campuses, including three in Laredo. As part of the program, 20 educators will be trained as AI Ambassadors to help their campuses integrate AI safely, ethically and effectively.

Funding will support professional learning, educator stipends, instructional activities and other efforts designed to build long-term capacity for responsible AI use in education.

“These educators will help campuses integrate AI safely, ethically and effectively while keeping strong teaching and student learning at the center,” said Mucahit Turel, assistant area superintendent of programs.

The AI Ambassadors will serve as campus-based leaders, helping teachers build confidence, share best practices and explore ways AI can support instruction and student learning.

Through this initiative, Harmony Public Schools South Texas is building a sustainable model for AI literacy that strengthens educator knowledge and prepares students to responsibly navigate emerging technologies.
